No need to have to remember or call when your services are due. A1 Fire Protection Services will make sure to have you scheduled and always up to date before an inspection is due, and before the accumulation of pesky grease that can build up quickly if not maintained properly.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requires commercial kitchen hoods be inspected at specific intervals, depending on the volume of cooking and type of cooking conducted. Is yours up to code?
A1 Fire Protection Hood Cleaning Checklist:
· We remove and clean hood filters. This important first step is where the kitchen crew and most other cleaning companies typically stop. We do not skip this process, we will clean and replace any damaged filters if needed.
· Drape and funnel hoods. We don’t leave a mess behind after we’re done. Draping and funneling your hoods allows us to capture the greasy wastewater that comes from cleaning your hoods.
· Cover appliances, if necessary. We take precaution and cover all appliances and electrical outlets as needed to ensure your kitchen is safe and even more clean after we’re done, than when we started.
· Apply degreaser to hood, fan and duct work. This is where the cleaning really starts. Degreasers help to break up the grease so we can clean efficiently.
· Pressure-wash hood, fan and duct work to remove grease. Using the entry points available, we pressure-wash the entire exhaust system from the top down. We open the hoods from the top, usually with roof access and also spray up from the bottom as well. Leaving no corner untreated.
· Clean up excess water and remove drape. We won’t leave our mess for you to clean up. Our trained technicians are careful to make sure your kitchen is clean and ready to operate again. Cleaning the roof area of all grease and water puddles is important to us.
· Wipe down and polish hood. Kitchen employees and restaurant owners take pride in their equipment, and we make sure everything is polished and no chemical residue is left behind.
· Test function of hood fan. When we’re done cleaning, we will perform a test to ensure the fan is fully operational and vibration free. We want you to be able to come in and operate with no issues.
· Place a certification sticker on the outside of the hood. Sometimes our customers need a reminder of when their hood exhaust system was last serviced. We will leave a sticker in a prominent place so you and inspectors know when your hood was cleaned. But no worries, a service expert will call you to remind you of your next cleaning.
Commercial kitchens in restaurants, cafeterias, schools, churches, catering businesses and even concession trailers with grease producing appliances require a fire suppression system, separate from the general water sprinkler system of the building, to follow safety and fire codes. When appliances are covered by a suppression system, fires are extinguished quickly and stay contained within the cooking area, keeping your employees, customers and property safe. The gas is also shut off automatically, preventing the fire from reigniting and an alarm is sent to the fire department. Clean up and system recharge can be done same-day, usually within a few hours, at a reasonable cost. The alternative is a fire out of control, loss of the entire property and even loss of life. Fire inspections for occupancy compliance by local authorities require a UL listed suppression system properly maintained every 6 months (NFPA 17 fire code) and most insurance companies require documentation of such service to maintain your coverage and even lower rates.
System repairs are executed in a timely and professional manner. Provide us with your appliance specifications and project timeline and we will give you a free estimate with on site consultation if necessary. You are guaranteed quality workmanship. A1 Fire Protection technicians take the time to properly inspect all aspects of your fire suppression system. Necessary parts for optimum performance are replaced, not reused, and nozzles are cleaned and caps are replaced if missing to keep grease from collecting in them. Our technician will also make the kitchen staff on duty familiar with the operation of your system. Also at each service, an inspection report form is completed in detail for each system, with a copy provided to your company and a copy kept on record for 4 years and available upon request. We service many types of kitchen systems: Ansul, Amerex, Buckeye, Pyro Chem, Kidde, Badger, Guardian, Perfect Fry and Range Guard. Call us today to set up your service appointment!
With A1 Fire Protection Services, you will receive expert advice on the correct type of extinguisher for your safety needs, professional service and quality workmanship at a fair price. We follow National Fire Codes NFPA 10 for our service standard. With our service, a detailed maintenance record is provided for fire inspections, insurance audits, price estimates and individual record keeping. All testing is properly completed without cutting any corners and we guarantee our work. We offer mobile service at your location.
The extinguisher is visually and functionally examined to be in proper working order (no rust, dents or other damages to the cylinder and all parts are in good operating condition) before a certification tag is applied. Our fire extinguishers are guaranteed to be in good condition and holding a full charge or we will reservice it free of charge. If the extinguisher does not pass our inspection due to damage, poor quality or is out of NFPA compliance, replacement will be recommended before certification can be completed.
The extinguisher is completely emptied of all chemical, the internal cylinder is checked for integrity and the o-ring, valve stem and pressure gauge is checked and replaced if needed. A dated collar ring is put in to place for verification of the 6 year service and cannot be changed unless the full breakdown has been done.
A1 Fire Protection Services uses a certified testing facility for all hydrostatic testing of fire extinguishers and kitchen suppression cylinder. The extinguisher (or cylinder) is emptied of all chemical, filled with water, then pressurized to manufacturer specifications and maintained for at least 30 seconds to test for operational integrity. The chamber is dried, refilled with chemical and recharged with pressure, following the same service standards as the 6 year breakdown.
UL listing – All fire extinguishers and systems sold or serviced by A1 Fire Protection Services must be UL listed by the latest government standards. Otherwise a fire extinguisher will be condemned and replaced with a new unit and a system will be condemned or “red-tagged” as non-compliant and will only be certified by A1 Fire Protection Services if updated or replaced with the current government UL listing standard.
